Reading Pretty Deadly was interesting because the interpretations of the female characters are interesting because there is a variety of female characters that are used. Some of the female characters are very typical characters that would be portrayed in comics acting as mothers and secondary characters such as the girl in the vulture cloak who is a young girl dependent on someone to take care of her which I find it interesting that the man is blind but he still takes care of the girl. Pretty Deadly has some women character who in the beginning does not seem like very strong characters who are dependent on the men to save them but towards the end of the series of comics, they develop into stronger characters who are not reliant on the men. I also like about this series of comics are the fantastical elements of it such as the concept of death and the form he takes as well as his prisoners and his daughters. Having the comics written by women personifies them as strong independent characters even though they didn’t start out like that. The development of the female characters is something interesting that isn’t used a lot but seems to be appearing more often in modern media. Comparing this series of comics to comics of the past we don’t see the type of independence that these women have but as the ideal women depicted by men who are meant to be at home taking care of the family and the men.
