Blog Post #7 Legitimation of the Comics In high school, I had the chance to read Maus Volume 1 but never got the chance to read Maus Volume 2 so having the opportunity I was very excited. Reading Maus Volume 2 the relationship between Art Spiegelman and his father seems to have evolved from the first one with the interaction between them and how they have a more difficult relationship. The interaction between Spiegelman and his father is very interesting because their relationship is full of moments where it is difficult for them to be together and talk to each other which is super difficult for what Spiegelman is trying to accomplish with his book. The relationship between father and son contrasts differently from the relationships that Vladek Spiegelman's father has with other people in the book even during such a difficult time. Blog Post #6 Underground Comics              The Adventures of Fat Freddy’s Cat deal with subjects that are not overtly talked about in a humorous way. Opening the document one of the first comics is about Freddy the cat who is personified to appear as an important figure who is called to the white house to launch an attack that will attack the immune system causing people to turn them gay. Freddy lands in a nudist colony and proceeds to kill them all believing it is the group that is releasing the toxin and continues to kill everyone and himself but is still alive due to having nine lives. The comic ends and there seems to be no remorse or consequences for what he had done. The other comics focus on such issues of murder, adultery, the use of drugs, and child soldiers which are subjects that are always talked about but not put into a funny sense. Blog post #5 The Graphic Novel             Reading Blankets by Craig Thompson I was worried that it wouldn’t be an enjoyable read to me and it would take too long for me to read. The story was something very interesting to me because it is something that a reader can connect to extremely easily whether dealing with religion and relationships. I felt I connected with Blankets because it is something I have gone through in my life of dealing with relationships but also with dealing with the loss of religion and worrying about going down a wrong path by doing that. Once I left an elementary school where I was forced to go to church and to study religion as part of my studies attending a private Catholic school, I began to stop believing in God and all the religion I studied. Blog post #4 Comic Books             Reading some of the comic books for this week assignment, I found it interesting how many of them have been adapted into another form of media. Reading The Adventures of TinTin: Explorers on the Moon, Captain America Comics #5, and Batman No. 1 I found it interesting that the stuff that interests me was things that have been adapted into things that I have watched and wanted to see the original source. I have a big interest in superhero movies specifically Marvel movies so reading and looking at the source material for them and seeing how they are adapted and changed is interesting. I don’t have a lot of knowledge on comic books but having the chance to read and see how they are adapted just by using a different media like movies especially to see how comic books like TinTin has a style change in comparison to the original artwork.
